Gabriel Golden is an outstanding young Guatemalan-American double bass & violone player, who is rapidly establishing himself in the professional world of music. Recent engagements include playing with the Los Angeles Master Chorale in Haydn’s Creation in Disney Hall and playing with Musica Angelica performing Bach’s Cantata 106. Predominantly a freelance musician in Los Angeles, playing and recording with many of the southland’s top ensembles, he has also played in Mexico, China & given master classes in Panama & Costa Rica. A graduate of Oberlin College & Conservatory of Music, Gabriel Golden received a Bachelor of Music in Double Bass performance and a Minor in Cello Performance, a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and a Minor in Art History.
While at USC, Gabriel Golden received a Masters of Music in Double Bass Performance and a Graduate Certificate in the same. He is a Phi Kappa Lambda Scholar and a recipient of the Colburn, Dangerfield Town & Gown, Siskel Town & Gown & Music Dean’s Merit Scholarship. It was at USC, while on full scholarship that he had an immediate connection with the violone. Last season, along with eight talented colleagues, Gabriel Golden co-founded a new early music group in Southern Califonia, Tesserae. Gabriel works at a local double bass shop as an assistant and plans to apply for a Fulbright Scholarship to apprentice in Italy and one day make his own bass, cello & violone.
