Katherine Kyme, frequent concertmaster of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, enjoys chamber music most of all. She has been a member of the prize-winning Sierra Quartet and the Artaria Quartet, String Circle, The Berkeley String Quartet, and currently, The New Esterhazy Quartet, which specializes in the music of Haydn and his contemporaries. She has performed in one of Con Gioia’s earliest seasons. This season, she began the Cantata Collective, which aims to perform all the Bach Cantatas over the next several years.
She was a member of the Streicher Trio for 25 years specializing in the music of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, and the Arcadian Academy with Nicholas McGegan and Elizabeth Blumenstick which specializes in chamber music of 17th Century.
An avid teacher, she conducts Berkeley Baroque Strings, a group of 30 amateurs each week performing three concerts each season. [In addition to her teaching the Berkeley Baroque Strings,] she [also] teaches the 160 students of the California Symphony String program in three chamber orchestras each Sunday. Her discography is impressive. She can be heard in over 100 recordings of music from 1650-2015.
