Hailed as “brilliantly translucent,” “perfection,” “virtuoso” and “with beautiful expression” in the Oregon Artwatch, LA Opus, Gazettes and San Francisco Classical Voice, Lot Demeyer is quickly emerging as one of the West Coast’s leading Baroque oboists. She has performed on historical and modern oboes, as well as recorder, with world-class organizations like LA Opera and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, as well as LA Chamber Orchestra, Musica Angelica, Bach Collegium San Diego, Long Beach Opera, California Bach Society, Bach Society Houston, Mercury Houston, Bach Society of Minnesota, LA Master Chorale, and Pacific Chorale, among others. Festival appearances include the Oregon Bach Festival, Berkeley Early Music Festival, Corona Del Mar Baroque Festival, Montana Early Music Festival, Musica Antiqua Festival (Belgium), Festival de Juiz de Fora and Festival de Música de Londrina (Brazil).
During the past decade Lot Demeyer has taught modern and historical oboes, solfege, folk music, music theory and children’s choir at various schools and conservatories both in the United States and Europe. Since 2014 she has been Lecturer in Baroque Oboe and Director of the Baroque Wind Band at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. Highlights of Lot Demeyer’s career include founding the first official Renaissance shawm course in Belgium, researching and performing “forgotten” music of 20th century Belgian composers, as well as projects on bridging the gap between European and American oboe schools. Her most recent endeavor is Baroque oboe building.
Lot Demeyer won fellowships from the Fulbright Foundation, the King Baudouin Foundation and the Belgian American Educational Foundation. Awards and recognitions include a First Prize at the Belfius Classics Music Competition, multiple University of Southern California Chamber Music Awards, as well as the 2007 and 2010 USC Awards for Outstanding Academic Achievements. Lot Demeyer holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance from the University of Southern California, and a Master’s and Music Education Degree from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
